One Mother's Story

It's a fairly "typical" dream: girl finds boy, girl falls for boy, girl and boy get married, girl and boy have beautiful children, family lives happily ever after.

So what happens when there is a "glitch" in the dream? When the path you've planned so carefully veers off course into uncharted, murky territory? You write about it. Sometimes whatever you're dealing with is so difficult, so painful, so.... messy, you've got to share it or it will eat away at you. Sometimes just putting out there for the world to see can make you feel less alone, can make you think that maybe somewhere what you've written could help someone else.

Seth's sister, Gaaby, has a friend who recently started such a blog.

Spearsfamilyproject.blogspot.com is a poignant, powerful, honest look at raising a family when the dream you're living is brutally different than the one you planned. The author writes about her three children, two of whom are severely autistic, and the overwhelming emotions that accompany such an experience. She writes honestly of the pain, shame, and fear of not being the mother you always thought you'd be. She writes of the joy, pride, and love she has for her children and her husband, made only more powerful by the circumstances through which they've maneuvered together.

It's not always pretty. It's not always cheerful. But there is a beauty in the struggle, a smile in the middle of the agony, that makes it all so worthwhile.

I totally agree. What she's doing is so gorgeous, so raw and beautiful, I cry each time I read a new post. Thank you for reading and for sharing this with yours and for being so insightful. XO.
